P4 Scholars

This elective course, available to medical students during the summer term, includes two weeks of basic science lectures, five weeks of small group activities and research with an assigned mentor. The term culminates in a final scholarly research project. Topics include: health care history, microRNA’s, consumer-centered health care, bioethics, genomics, pharmacogenetics, preventive medicine, social sick role, behavioral change, evolution and bioinformatics. Interdisciplinary Introduction to P4 Medicine

This elective course, available to undergraduate, graduate and medical students, provides an introduction to medicine as a proactive discipline. Medicine is in the process of evolving from a reactive to a more proactive discipline. One leading framework for this vision is the P4 Health model of healthcare delivery which envisions health care as predictive, preventive, personalized and participatory. This class (lecture + lab) is designed to provide a platform for education about the future of medicine and to train future leaders in this emerging movement of proactive health practices.
